This is a story about how history is woven into a handmade quilt. It is an historical look at handmade quilt block making in my great grandmothers kitchen during a 25 weeklong period beginning on May 28, 1933. It tells the story of the Sunday Oregonian newspaper publishing a weekly quilt block pattern for the Modernistic Flower Applique Quilt, and how the making of this particular applique quilt was incorporated into daily life during the excitement of the relatively new radio era. The quilter avidly listened to radio drama and the news while quilting and this was during the period when Hitler was rising to power, Roosevelt became President of the US and postage for a letter was only 3 cents.
